Full Description:

Founded in 1975 by Jennie Robertson, Virginia Samford Donovan and Mary Conyers Cooper, CDF's mission is to provide quality dance education to students of all ages and abilities, fostering many essential skills, creativity and confidence. We bring a creative experience to challenged and disenfranchised members of our community. Community service through the power of dance is the bedrock of our work. Our main programs are: •Community Partnership Program partially funded by the participating organizations; •Studio Program with financial assistance to those in need; •Educator and Parent Resources and curriculum materials for young children; •School Touring Program, “Math in Motion”; •contracted training programs for educators; •student and staff performances for the community and •Creative Community Workspace, a long-standing commitment to offer studio space for individual artists and organizations who are in need of space to work and perform to call ‘home.’ All CDF programs are based on a nurturing, inclusive and skill-building philosophy, and are offered through community collaborations. CDF has a rich history of local and statewide collaboration with many partners. CDF’s School Touring Program, "Math In Motion," has toured statewide with support from Alabama State Council on the Arts’ Rural Touring Program and the Jefferson County Community Arts Fund. Spring 2006, Children’s Dance Foundation was one of three recipients to receive Childcare Resource’s Children’s Advocate Award. Children’s Dance Foundation is a private not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) corporation with a volunteer board of directors and a volunteer support organization, The Children’s Arts Guild. CDF has 7 core staff and 30 part-time musicians and teachers dedicated to serving the community with a passion for sharing dance with those of all ages and abilities. We own our facility and earn an average of almost 70% of our annual budget through fees for services such as studio classes and rental of studio space. Children’s Dance Foundation’s programs and services are creative, student-centered and committed to community. |
