To fairly display new events, we sort all events in a particular order. This page gives a brief explanation of how we do this.
- First, "Spotlight Events" will appear at the top of any applicable list. For example, a "Spotlight Event" in the Dance category will appear at the top of a list of all Dance events.
- Next, we consider how close an event is to the current date, or to the date you specified in a search. Any event with a start date within seven days (in the past or future) of the desired date will appear higher on a list than an event with a start date that is further away (in the past or future).
For example, an event that began three days before the desired date will be listed before an event that began ten days before that date. An event that will begin two days from the desired date will be listed before an event that will begin eight days from that date.
- Then we look at the date the events end. Taking the first two rules into account, in general, events that will end soon are listed before events that will end later.
- Finally, we sort by how long an event lasts. Allowing for the first three rules, events that last only one or a few days will appear higher on a list than events that last for longer periods.
