AUBURN UNIVERSITY-The JULE COLLINS SMITH MUSEUM of FINE ART and J. GILBERT JOHNSTON'S ANTIQUE NATURE PRINTSpresent the exhibition: JOHN JAMES AUDUBON-PRECURSORS and CONTEMPORARIES Audubon's monumental BIRDS of AMERICA with 435 hand-colored plates took twelve years to complete, 1826-1838. This exhibit focuses on those artists/scientists who laid the foundations for Natural History Science and inspired Audubon and his contemporaries. On Exhibit are Original Prints and Plate-books from the foremost men and women of 16th - 19th century Natural History Science. Artists and Authors exhibited are: 16th C; Leonhard Fuchs,John Gerard. 17th C.; John Jonston, Basilius Besler,John Ray. 18th C.; Marie Merian, Johan Weinmann, Albertus Seba, Thomas Pennant, Mark Catesby, Comte de Buffon,John Abbot, Xaverio Manetti, George Edwards. 19th C.; John James Audubon, Prideaux John Selby, Pierre Joseph Redoute. The Louise Hauss & David Brent Miller Audubon Gallery Museum Hours: 8:30- 4:45, Closed Sunday. ...................... J. GILBERT JOHNSTON'S ANTIQUE NATURE PRINTS is located in Birmingham, Alabama.
