Event Name:
38th Annual Fayette Arts Festival
Description: Fine & Folk Art and Crafts event for artists to exhibit and sell their artwork
Date: August 25, 2007
Full Description:
It's that time of year again. Those familiar green signs are appearing everywhere. This year marks the 38th Annual Fayette Arts Festival on Saturday, August 25, the longest running arts festival in the state. It is juried with cash prizes and features fine & folk art and crafts. This is an opportunity for artists to exhibit and sell their work.
Many of the old favorites are returning, such as: Lawrence Franks and his metal sculptures and bottle trees; John Tilley and his watercolors; Duane Larson with his wood carved birds; and SHE-SHE with her folk art. The local favorites include Michael Shepherd, Ron Morris, Joan Weaver and Jackie Williams. New artists include Rhonda Jackson and her unique monogram embroidery, Kuzuko Sasaki with Japanese Sumi painting, Bailey Wood Carvings with his hand carved wood 'Spirit Sticks' and Doyle Beams and his watercolors just to name a few. There are many, many more in all these categories.
The 5th Annual Arts Festival shirt will be on sale the day of the festival; food vendors promise everything from Bar B-Q to funnel cakes; and there will be continuous entertainment for festival goers to enjoy from 9-4 on the Main Stage featuring many local soloists and groups. Kids' Place promises to be better than ever! Ron Morris, art instructor at Bevill State Community College has professional artists and trained volunteers to give free art lessons to the children age preschool to 12 years. There will be tie-died T-shirts, pottery, printmaking and Clorox painting.
There is no charge for the festival only a $2 parking fee per car. The Fayette Boy Scouts assist with the parking. There will be a FREE shuttle in the park sponsored by Fayette Mental Health and Northwest Alabama Mental Health.
We hope you will make your plans now to have lunch with us; shop the wonderful array of arts and crafts; and enjoy the entertainment all in the shade at the Guthrie Smith Park on Saturday, August 25, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
